UGC Approved 13 Vocational Courses of CBSE

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved 13 vocational courses of CBSE that are being taught in CBSE affiliated school’s Class XI and Class XII. The Central Bard of Secondary Education (CBSE) initiated much on its part for these courses to get encouragement at undergraduate level. Now after finally getting a green signal from UGC, these vocational courses will be introduced in Indian universities and colleges at undergraduate level as well.

UGC's Deputy Secretary, Shakeel Ahmad has written to all affiliated universities in India to introduce these approved new subjects in their universities at Undergraduate level in various degree programmes.
CBSE’s Academic Director, Sadhana Parashar had earlier formally written to the commission related to sanctioning of these innovative vocational courses.


The syllabus for the new recognized courses is accessible through the CBSE website. The scheme of studies for all these academic subjects is precise in nature and designed specially with the industry and employability opportunities in mind. She further urged that these new subjects must be added to their information prospectus having a list of the approved and recognized courses and academic subjects, this way no student will face further difficulties during admission procedure to higher education institutes and they will be considered as eligible.
CBSE since 2012 was endeavoring for these courses to get sanctioned by the UGC for which the board also met with several varsities as well as the central government on 28 September 2012.

The central board is currently has 34 vocational courses on offer which consist 97 subjects in total. Since these courses are of optional nature, so far only 313 affiliated schools in India and 11 schools overseas have chosen it. 

The 13 courses UGC approved are as follows:
  
Knowledge Tradition and Practices of India, Legal Studies, Human Rights and Gender Studies, Theatre Studies, NCC, Heritage Crafts, Graphic Design, Creative Writing and Translation Studies, Functional English, Entrepreneurship, Bio-technology, Fashion Studies, Mass Media Studies.
