CMAT September 2014: Tricks to crack exam

CMAT, held twice a year by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), is an entry to B-schools.
For those who wish to pursue management courses need to gear up for the September entrance test. The online test is divided into four sections with 25 questions each. Because each right answer credits 4 marks and a negative mark for one wrong answer, there is a need to chalk out a strategy.
A quick look at these tips will get anyone through the exam and increase their confidence:
Part 1- Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation:
  • Practice fast calculation techniques for solving mathematical questions.
  • Know your formulas well, without having to put your mind to thinking.
  • Register yourself with a website to solve online mock tests.
  • Do not try to stick to a question to solve it again and again. This will lessen your chance for attempting more questions.
  • If you are afraid of numbers and is weak at maths, try to brush up your knowledge by solving entrance books.
Part 2 - Reasoning:
  • This is a fun area if you relate it with real life logics
  • Maintain a cool while solving this. Any misunderstood fact can lead to all wrong answers.
  • For family tree, blood relation, direction questions try to make a chart in rough.
  • Break your paragraph in smaller sentences while attemting the Infrence based, cause & effect, assumption questions.
Part 3 - Language Comprehension:
  • While attemting the composition question, read the questions before the paragraph. This will help you mark your answers as you read, saving time.
  • Strengthen your vocabulary. This can be done by learning the words from previous tests besides regular practice.
  • For sentence correction questions, try to re-read the corrections in your mind.
Part 4- General Awareness:
  • This is the area which can help you achieve maximum.
  • Brush up your knowledge by reading regular dailies and magazines.
  • Take up tests and solve papers.
  • Divide your GK preparation in sections and make maximum notes.
