AIPMT 2015: SC asks 875 seats to be reverted to states

AIPMT 2015

Around 875 seats of government medical colleges were reverted back to respective states on September 17. These account for 15 percent of the total 3,429 seats. Some students approached the Supreme Court with a request that these seats must be filled on the basis of AIPMT merit list and not from state merit list.
The SC stayed admissions against these seats and finally passed an order on October 1 giving extension of one week for admissions beyond the deadline of September 30 and asked the states to fill seats on basis of AIPMT merit list. Last year, 858 seats were reverted out of which 682 were from MBBS and 176 from BDS.
Dr. Arvind Goyal of Chandigarh, an academician and PMT Trainer is of the view that, "Although the Hon'ble Supreme Court has directed the states to fill the AIPMT seats reverted to them through the AIPMT merit list and also extended the last date for admissions to October 7 ,but the advantage of this may not be fully passed on to the AIPMT qualified students. Most of these states are holding the counselling in the only three working days, i.e. October 5 to 7 where the student who is interested needs to apply and be physically present for the counselling .Eventually the student practically will only be able to attend counselling of one state.
