MH-CET to make a comeback for engineering admissions from 2016

Maharashtra CET

As per the officials of the Maharashtra higher and technical education department, the MH-CET, which stands for Maharashtra common entrance test, will replace JEE Main from 2016, to grant admissions to first year B.E/B.Tech programmes. So for getting admission to Engineering courses in the state, students will have to appear for this exam. Last time the exam was last conducted in 2013 and admissions to engineering programmes was done through JEE Main.
The announcement regarding the state's plan to conduct its own common entrance test (CET) for engineering admissions was made by Vinod Tawde, the minister for higher and technical education.
Official notification regarding the MH CET 2016 eligibility criteria and application procedure will be released soon at the official website.
After the re-introduction of the CET, JEE (Main) system for  admission into the state engineering colleges will be scrapped off. As per newspaper reports, since the application process for JEE Main 2015 is already over, there will be no changes this year. However from next year CET will make a comeback. JEE Main is an all India engineering entrance examination held by the CBSE.

Students, parents as well as private engineering colleges' associations have been demanding to bring the CET back as the JEE Main syllabus is hard to cope up with and lots of money is spent is getting coaching from private institutes for JEE Main.
Also once CET is restored, the government will continue to assign 50 percent weightage to Class 12 scores as well as 50 percent to CET scores, instead of the JEE Main.
