IIST admissions through JEE (Adv)

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, a Deemed to be University, Valiamala P.O., Thiruvananthapuram, has announced the details related to the admissions to the Under Graduate and Dual-degree programmes offered by the Institute for the academic year 2017-18.
Kochi: Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, a Deemed to be University, Valiamala P.O., Thiruvananthapuram, has announced the details related to the admissions to the Under Graduate and Dual-degree programmes offered by the Institute for the academic year 2017-18.
IIST will admit students to the 4-Year B.Tech Programme in Aerospace Engineering (60 seats), 4-Year B.Tech Programme in Avionics (60 seats) and 5-Year Dual Degree (B.Tech. M.S./M.Tech.) Programme (20 seats). The 5-year Dual Degree programme leads to B.Tech. degree in Engineering Physics and one of M.S. in Solid State Physics/Astronomy & Astrophysics/Earth System Science or M.Tech. in Optical Engineering. There is no exit option at the end of four years.
Applicants must be Indian Citizens. Those belonging to the General/OBC categories must have been born on or after October 1, 1992. Those belonging to SC/ST and Persons with Disabilities (PD) categories must have been born on or after October 1, 1987.


Applicant must have passed 10+2 or equivalent, securing at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination. SC, ST and PD applicants need an aggregate of 65% marks. The marks scored in (i) Physics (ii) Chemistry (iii) Mathematics (iv) A language (if the candidate has taken more than one language, then the language with the higher marks will be considered) (v) Any subject other than the above four (the subject with the highest marks will be considered), will be considered for calculating the aggregate marks criterion.
The qualifying examination should be any one of the following:
The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/State such as Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi; Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE), New Delhi, etc. Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/University Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy Vocational Higher Secondary Examination Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
Any Public School/Board/University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London / Cambridge /Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
In case the relevant qualifying examination is not a public examination, applicant must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination at an earlier level.
Applicant must also satisfy the mark requirements related to JEE (Advanced) 2017. Those desirous of joining IIST must appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (Main)-2017 conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi and qualify themselves for Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)-2017 conducted by IITs and secure the minimum prescribed category-wise marks in JEE (Advanced)-2017. General Candidates (GEN) should secure at least 20% marks in aggregate and at least 5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). For OMC (NCL), it is 18% marks in aggregate and at least 4.5% marks in each of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. For SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities(PD), it would be 10% marks in aggregate and at least 2.5% marks in each of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

IIST Admission Rank list will be prepared based on the All-India Rank (including category rank) of JEE (Advanced)-2017.  IIST Admission Rank list will be generated only for those candidates who register online for admission to IIST and satisfy all the eligibility criteria.
The IIST admission web portal for online registration will be open from 22nd May 2017, up to 12th June 2017. The IIST Admission counselling will be conducted during the fourth week of June 2017.
